Targets

  • To provide parents/carers with the necessary education and support required by the programme
  • To recognise, value and encourage the strength of each parent/carers and to build on those strengths
  • To demonstrate to agencies, organisations and communities that they have responsibility to work together to provide the necessary support for parents/carers and children
  • To provide a culturally-sensitive service; the programme does not tolerate discrimination on grounds of gender, age, disability or religious beliefs
  • To raise awareness of the alternative methods of handling conflict by setting boundaries to improve communication between parents/carers and children
  • To explore the different styles of parenting
  • To raise awareness of the problems caused by bullying and to offer counter measures

  • Encouraging families to communicate with each other, thereby avoiding stand-offs, conflict and the breakdown of relationships

  • Dealing with transitional problems as children change schools e.g. from infants to junior, junior to senior, attending a school which is not your first choice etc.
  • Meeting with other agencies e.g. Drug and Alcohol Team, Youth Justice, Anti-Social Behaviour, Victim Support etc

Additional Services

  • Hertfordshire Practical Parenting Programme (HPPP) co-facilitated groups for the 2004 Young Citizen project (part of Hertfordshire County Council Children, Schools and Families project)
  • HPPP facilitates parenting sessions in schools and community centres
  • HPPP specialises in small, private groups in order to overcome any personal problems arising out of larger group sessions.
